SATURDAY 6-2-1 +17.30 UNITS
Here are todays plays:
5 Units Kansas -6 -107
The Nevada Wolfpack (3-3 SU & 4-2 ATS) will have trouble under the boards this game. They are led by junior 6’-6” Kirk Snyder (17 ppg) and 6’-10” freshman Nick Fazekas (5 rpg). Nevada was 12-3 SU & 8-6 ATS at home last season, and they are 2-0 SU/ATS at home this season, though those wins were over Vermont and Weber State. And Kansas is well, much bigger and better than those two!!! The Jayhawks are playing well under first-year coach Bill Self, and are led by young J.R. Giddens and big Wayne Simien (16 ppg). Nevada steps up mightily in class here, and Kansas has great depth and defense, along with the best player on the court (Simien).
5 Units SMU +16 -101
SMU plays great defense, allowing 64 points and 42% shooting. The SMU Mustangs (4-3) get it done with good three-point shooters and a terrific frontcourt, anchored by 6’-9” junior Patrick Simpson (11 ppg, 7 rpg) and 6’-8” junior Eric Castro (6 rpg). They played Wake Forest tough before losing 78-66, beat Texas Tech 62-59 as a +6 dog and yesterday upset Miami of Ohio, 60-55. The big hero for SMU was Bryan Hopkins, who was unstoppable with 35 points, including six 3-pointers!!! The Mustangs made 53 percent of their 3-pointers, including 9 of 12 in the second half. They will have to be on top of their game again against Purdue, which also plays tough 'D' and is led by 6'-10" sophomore Matt Keifer. Purdue had an 80-69 first-round victory yesterday over Indiana-Purdue-Fort Wayne, as Keifer had 23 points and 5 boards. Don't look for a lot of points!!!
